The most common causes are a dirty flame sensor, a failed ignitor, a clogged air filter that trips the high-limit switch, or a thermostat fan set to “on” instead of “auto.” Check the filter and thermostat first. If the furnace still blows cold, turn it off and call a technician to avoid further damage.
It depends on the problem and the type of system. Replacing a flame sensor or ignitor is a much smaller job than a blower motor or control board.
