Call right away if you have no heat in freezing weather, no cooling during extreme heat (especially with infants, seniors, or anyone with health concerns), a burning or electrical smell, water leaking from your system, a breaker that keeps tripping, or a system that will not shut off.
Leave the house immediately with everyone, including pets. Do not flip light switches or use anything that could spark. From outside, call 911 or your gas utility. Once they confirm it is safe to go back in, call us to find and repair the source.
Close curtains and blinds, shut doors to rooms you are not using, and gather the family in one room. If you use a space heater, keep it at least three feet from anything flammable and never leave it unattended. Never use an oven, grill, or generator indoors for heat. In very cold weather, let faucets drip to help prevent frozen pipes.
Make sure the thermostat is set to heat or cool and has fresh batteries, check that the breaker has not tripped, confirm the furnace power switch is on and the front panel is closed tightly, and look for a badly clogged air filter. If the system still will not run, turn it off and call us.
